A land like a storybook with a happy ending is the Apuseni Mountains. The area, of unreal beauty, with its hills and peaks, beech and conifer forests, is one of ancient history, where our history was written before that of the Dacians.

The Apuseni Mountains are a star of tourism in Romania that sends its rays abroad, where more and more foreign publications notice its beauty and uniqueness.

A holiday destination in nature

The flora, fauna and the advantageous accommodation offers for holiday homes, chalets and bungalows complete the list of reasons why the Apuseni Mountains are a destination NOT TO BE MISSED. Now is the time to return to nature, the pandemic has opened our eyes to its beauty and benefits.

And we, the people at rentakub.com, consistent with our goal of doing a different kind of tourism than the table one, want to inspire you with this article dedicated to the beauty of the Apuseni Mountains.

Here is our selection of unmissable tourist attractions and offers for full rental of holiday homes, chalets and bungalows in the Apuseni Mountains. But the list is open, there is so much to see and do!

-Bear Cave

The Bear Cave from Chișcău (Bihor county) came to light in 1975, after a dynamite in the marble quarry in the locality. The cave bears once lived in these dark galleries, their fossils being dated to 100,000 years. But the cave bears have now disappeared for approx. 15,000 years and they are not the only ones. Fossils of black goats, lions and cave hyenas were found in the cave. You can visit three galleries, the Science Gallery being reserved for speleologists. Impressive are also the stalactites and stalagmites, especially the ones suggestively named due to their shape: The Enchanted Palace, the Dwarf's House, the Mastodon, the Water Lily Lake, the Council of Elders, etc.

A unique place in the world, a world of darkness that you can lift the veil a little… It is the most visited tourist attraction in the Apuseni Mountains National Park and with good reason!

- Stâna de Vale

The Bihor resort located at an altitude of over 1,100 m is privileged by its location in the brain of the Apuseni. Famous primarily for its oligomineral and ferruginous waters and increased ionization of the air, Stâna de Vale is one of the oldest mountain resorts in the country. It also has a tradition in skiing, being privileged by the longer winter season and heavy snowfalls. The atmosphere and the numerous routes for hiking enthusiasts make Stâna de Vale a destination for any season. A well-deserved escape to such a beautiful area!

-Scărișoara Cave and Glacier

The Scărișoara Glacier Cave (Garda, Alba County) is the first cave declared a natural monument in the country, in 1938. It houses the largest underground block of ice in the world, which tourists reach after descending, step by step, a level difference of 48 m. The temperature inside the cave can drop below 0 ° C in the summer months. The cave has a single room, absolutely special, in the middle of which is the block of ice over 4,000 years old. Awesome place!

-Padis area

A real karst plateau, almost flat, Șesul Padiș is unique, delighting your eyes with its numerous sinkholes in which the sky rises, mirroring itself in lakes. The rainwater drains underground, to then exit through Izbucul Ponor or Valea Boga. Padis Cave is located in the northern part of the plain. The Trânghiești Valley and the Gârjoaba Valley fragment the plain and, between them, we find the plateau on which the Padiș Chalet is located. The area is dominated by Vf. Moțului Church (1,458 m), a special panoramic point! We stay in the Padis Area, it's more than tender!

-The fortresses of Ponor, Galbenei Gorges

Located within the commune of Pietroasa, the Padiș area has many of the tourist attractions that make the Apuseni famous: The Ponor Fortress, Someșului Cald Gorges - Poiana Vărășoaia, Galbenei Gorges - Poiana Florilor. Lots of tourist routes that hiking enthusiasts should not miss crossing the area.

Book a holiday home, villa or bungalow to rent in full and end your days wandering through this superb area in the most appropriate way possible.

-The Glacier Cave from Vârtop

The cave houses a block of ice of 1,600 cubic meters but it also has something unique in it. The cave is approx. 1,170 m altitude, near the hamlet Casa de Piatră from Arieşeni commune, Alba County. It is approx. 340 m long and can only be visited equipped with boots and battery-powered lighting. The access is not really comfortable for everyone. So, walk along a signposted path from the Stone House. The Stone House can be reached from the centre of Gârda de Sus, on a 12 km trail.

The cave and glacier at Vârtop are worth visiting not only because they are famous for the discovery of Neanderthal footprints dating back 62,000 years. They are the oldest traces of Neanderthal man in Romania and perhaps even in Europe. No mean feat!

-Răchiţele waterfall

It's also inspirationally named "The Bride's Veil" after the white, diaphanous waterfall over 100 feet below. A bride is said to have fallen from the steep cliffs in the area and her veil was left hanging on the rocks, legend has it. The bride and groom stopped and started crying, thus the waterfall formed. Too sad for such a beautiful place, the legend can't be true! Located at the foot of the Vlădeasa Massif, Răchițele is accessible from the town of Huedin. Must see!

-Accommodation for fully rented holiday homes

It's time to experience true hospitality at " Transilvanica Cottage". Located in Valea Ierii, " Transilvanica Cottage" is in the heart of a Natura 2000 protected natural area. It is not at all difficult to break away from the world in this beautiful exceptional Transylvanian setting!

-Meziad Cave

Long considered the longest cave in the country (4,750 m), Meziad is very spectacular in architecture and thanks to its bat colonies. The impressive dimensions of the portal (16 m high and 10 m wide), as well as the interior catch your attention. Located at 397 m above sea level, Meziad is unique in its two levels of karstification. In the area of the Natural Bridge, where the two levels overlap, the total height of the dome reaches 35 m. It was inhabited by Homo sapiens and animals such as the cave bear, but now it is preferred by bats for hibernation.

As the Wind Cave, the longest in the country, cannot be visited, choose Meziaș.

-Avram Iancu Memorial House from Incești

"The Little Prince from the Mountains" was born in Apuseni, in a family of slightly wealthier peasants from Alba County. Avram Iancu (1824-1872), legendary figure and leader of the Revolution of 1848 in Transylvania, was born in this house. Typical for the Moti, made of fir beams, with a tiled roof and small windows, the house is over 220 years old and was left by Avram Iancu, by will, in 1850, "for the benefit of the Romanian nation". A foray into the less promoted history of the country does not hurt anyone, small or large.

-Râmeţului Gorges

They are part of a 150-hectare nature reserve. Because of the relief, the picturesque gorges can be walked easily but carefully, following the water. The first stretch is easier for walking, but has a number of temptations for the experienced. We're talking flanges and steel cables, an accessible trail up to the famous 'Gateway to the Gorges' and the 'to the Oven' portion. For the adventurous, there are all sorts of other challenges, such as suspended cables for crossing the water.

-Accommodation at the holiday homes Relax and Smile Complex

Booking at the Relax and Smile Râmeț Complex holiday home is all the more suitable if you want to "hide away" in pure nature and to experience special sights. Alba Iulia, with its medieval fortress and the famous Turda Saltworks are close by, but they are not the only attractions. Smile and Relax is located on the Geoagiului Valley, about two km from the Râmeț Monastery, near the Râmețului Gorge. The villa complex for full rent is located in a quiet area and is brand new: it was opened in 2021. It offers various accommodation options with all facilities and comforts included.

-Lake Tarniţa

Fed by the Someșul Cald river, Lake Tarnița has 215 ha of surface area and is about eight km long. It is one of the most popular recreational areas in Cluj County, a real paradise for fishermen and water skiers. Here in Apuseni, you can benefit from accommodation offers at holiday homes, cabins and bungalows at the most affordable prices.
